Grief is a natural part of life, as is loss in all forms. But why are we so averse to grief? So afraid of it? So ignorant about it?

I’m not answering the why to those questions today, all I know for sure is that it is imperative to our wellbeing to develop a healthier relationship with grief.

One of the fastest ways to do this is through the breathe and the body. This is why I’m so obsessed with breathwork and somatic work for myself, my clients and humanity in general.

And why? Why dive intentionally into grief with breathwork and other tools? Why is grief “our friend”???
✨grief shows us what is most important to us and to what depths we are capable of love
✨grief reminds us of our impermanence and how precious each moment is, inspiring us to soak up life as much as possible
✨grief shifts your perspective away from the petty shit that doesn’t even matter, opening your eyes to the things that really matter and that bring true fulfillment
✨grief will burst your heart open to levels of empathy for the human experience that this world desperately needs
✨grief is an inevitable and important aspect of the human experience, and it shows us a great many things when we feel it and process it…but can make us sick if we avoid and resist it

Grief is natural & it’s ok to feel it… lean

into your tools & support system

We weren’t meant to live in perpetual grief, in fact when grief lingers and hinders your joy and forward movement for years it’s likely a sign that you aren’t actually grieving, but rather resisting.

I’ve discovered through losing my mother nearly 5yrs ago now that grief comes in waves, and that your relationship with it evolves with you. And yes, it does get easier, more manageable, less scary, less overwhelming and shorter in duration.

And as I’ve listed above there are many #gifts that come with grief and loss…if you look for them.

So I encourage you to be brave enough to feel your feelings fully in a safe way, make space for the grief to move, and ask for #support when you need it.

When it comes to grief, breathwork is one of the most powerful tools I’ve found. Breathwork brings up unprocessed emotion that has been stuck in the subconscious mind and body so that it can be felt and processed. This allows us to truly heal on a deep somatic level so that we can move forward in our lives with more freedom and space to feel joy, inspiration, peace and love.

I teach a trauma-informed approach, which means providing a safe space and titrated guidance to help people increase their window of tolerance within their nervous system for processing difficult emotions such as grief. When our mind just resists going there, or when we feel overwhelmed and shut down, breathwork is a fantastic practice to help us get past the protector parts and allow the body to heal itself in doses that we can tolerate.

The video posted above is a clip from the latest video I made for Self Love Club Members, and its all about how to manage grief and loss during the holidays, and yes breathwork is one of the tools I mention.
